Synopsis:
On the night of 73rd Indian Independece day, targetting only old people’s residences, two unknown persons commit as many as 50 robberies in Hyderabad. A female police officer Gayatri(Shraddha Srinath) is assigned to solve the case. A military officer named Subhash Chandra Bose(Vishal) joins her later during the process of solving the case. How does a millitary officer join a police cased? How could two persons rob 50 houses in the span of two hours? how could Vishal solve the case forms the rest of the story.
Actors’ Performance:
Vishal is perfect for his role though his role looks so illogical. His acting is good leaving aside the logics behind the character. Shraddha Srinath as a police cop is okay looks wise and acting wise but her personality is not suited for the cop role. All others are okay in their roles. There is a surprise character in the movie which is played by a prominent heroine. And she is perfectly good in her role. It would spoil the surprise if we reveal the name. So we don’t.
Technical Departments:
Though the story has a good premise as well as a engaging screenplay, the film mainly lacks reality. A millitary officer coming to solve a criminal case seems quite illogical. And also the character of Vishal in the movie seems quite artificial. It appears that more cinematic liberties have been taken to elevate hero’s character. And also, it would make no difference if Vishal is introduced as a normal police officer or even CBI if they want to show some speciality. In this aspect, the director seems to have failed wholly.
Coming to other departments, Yuvan Shankar Raja stuns us with a thumping background score which is much needed for these type of thriller dramas. Veteran cinematographer Balasubramaniem excels only during action sequences. Other than that, his work is just adequate, nothing special. Editor Thiyagu has done a very good job as he kept the run time quite perfect.
Plus Points:
Vishal performance
Screenplay
Minus Points:
Illogics
Highlights:
Surprise character
Analysis:
Chakra would definitely be a good film if director had taken care of some illogical aspects. More than necessary cinematic liberties have damaged the film. Otherwise, it would have the potential to be one of the best thrillers in south Indian cinema. If you could spare some nonsense, you could definitely give it a try.
One line verdict: Cinematic liberty at peaks
